Organic ingredients meet glacier water near Whistler, BC
Pemberton Distillery crafts certified organic spirits entirely from scratch, with glacial water in the mix.
Established in 2008, Pemberton Distillery (near Whistler) is a 100% organic booze-maker run by husband and wife Tyler and Lorien Schramm. Pemberton—a fertile mountain valley located 20 miles (32 km) north of the skiing, snowboarding and other fun at Whistler Blackcomb—has a hundred-year history of farming, and is known in particular for its seed potatoes. The Schramms use local, organic spuds (and other organic produce, much of it from the Pemberton Valley) to craft small batches of vodka, gin, whiskey, absinthe and an interesting range of liqueurs (including rarities like kartoffelschnaps).
All spirits are made without artificial or chemical additives, genetically modified ingredients or computerized processes. The Schramms start with raw ingredients, prepare their own mash and fermentation, and operate their stills by hand. Their secret sauce: Glacier-fed river water, Arnold Holstein pot stills and all that meticulous care.
Located a thirty-minute drive north of Whistler at 1954 Venture Place, Pemberton, BC. Tours by appointment and for a small fee. Or, taste Pemberton Distillery’s spirits at many of Whistler’s popular restaurants and bars. www.pembertondistillery.ca
